Course details
The Safely injecting insulin in a care environment course is specifically designed for care workers. As part of this they will develop the skills to monitor glucose levels using a blood glucose meter or sensor. They will then learn how to safely inject insulin using an insulin pen, ensuring correct technique and dosage. Staff will also learn to recognise and respond to adverse reactions or emergencies. The course shows participants how to accurately document insulin administration, including dose, timing, and any issues. It promotes the importance of following policies, procedures and diabetes management plans to deliver safe, consistent, and high-quality diabetes care.
To ensure participants develop this knowledge and skills they complete:

- 3-hour face-to-face practical session: Hands-on training with an instructor who is both a registered nurse (RN) and credentialled diabetes educator (CDE), ensuring competency and confidence.
