Course Overview

Diabetes Qualified is proud to collaborate with the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia in the co-development of the Diabetes in Practice for Pharmacists course. The course is aimed at supporting and improving health service delivery within all pharmacy practice settings, by enhancing pharmacists’ health literacy to improve health outcomes for people living with diabetes.

As a Pharmacist, you play a pivotal role in supporting the person living with diabetes.  This course will enable you to have a supportive and helpful conversation with the person living with diabetes. By completing this course , you will:

  • Update your knowledge on diabetes management and apply to everyday practice
  • Improve your ability to support the person living with diabetes
  • Have the confidence to have a meaningful conversation with the person living with diabetes, and explain medical information in a way that’s more easily understood
  • Be able to describe the purpose of a Diabetes Care Team, and how they can help the person with their diabetes management.

Course Summary: 

The course has 3 modules and 3  assessments.

The eLearning modules will cover:

Module 1

  1. Introduction
  2. NDSS, Diabetes organisations and Medicare
  3. Talking the talk
Competency Standards assigned Topic 1: 1.1, 1.4, 1.5

Topic 2: 2.1, 2.3, 2.4, 3.1, 3.5, 3.6

Topic 3: 2.1, 2.3, 2.4, 3.1, 3.5, 3.6.

Module 2

  1. Diabetes explained
  2. Risk factors for type 2 diabetes
  3. Blood glucose levels
  4. Looking after diabetes
  5. Healthy eating
  6. Physical activity

Topic 2: 2.1, 2.3, 2.4, 3.6

  7. Putting it into practice

Once all the modules have been completed and you have passed the three assessments you will receive a certificate. There is also a further reading and resources document and some handy checklists provided.

It is a COMPLUSORY PRE-REQUISITE that you have completed the initial face to face program before completing this Refresher program, otherwise you are not eligible to become a BEAT IT Trainer. BEAT IT Trainer Refresher includes six modules which have been developed by Accredited Exercise Physiologists, Accredited Practising Dietitians and Credentialled Diabetes Educators. The content covers chronic disease in Australia, the physical activity guidelines, diabetes, acute & chronic complications, exercise considerations and recommendations, and nutrition for physical activity.

In addition to refreshing BEAT IT Trainers with how to run a successful BEAT IT program, with the program now includes the added bonuses of advertising and ongoing support. A mark of greater than 80% in required in order to successfully complete the program requirements.

Prior to registering into the online course, it is your responsibly to ensure you have a current CPR certificate and have completed the BEAT IT Trainer face to face program.
