About the Course
Looking after a child with diabetes is an online education program designed for babysitters, grandparents, and nannies who care for a child with type 1 diabetes. This course consists of 1 eLearning module with 8 topics. It should take approximately 1 hour to complete all topics, or you can select the topics that suit you and do at your own pace.
In Australia, approximately 8,100 children between the ages of 0 to 15 years live with diabetes. Children under the age of 12 who are diagnosed, have type 1 diabetes. As a family member, friend, babysitter or nanny, you may be asked to look after a child with type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes does add extra considerations, planning and care. However, this online training will provide you with the information you need to feel confident to look after a child with type 1 diabetes.
Learning Outcomes
By completing this short online training, you will learn how to safely look after, and support a child with type 1 diabetes. By the end of this training you will know:
- what diabetes is
- how it is managed
- What equipment, information and instructions you will need from the parents
There are 8 topics covered in this training including practical information and case studies to help you feel confident in supporting a child with diabetes in your care.
