Beat It Trainer is an evidence-based program designed to provide the skills and knowledge necessary to deliver safe and effective group-based physical activity and lifestyle programs for people who may be overweight and/or obese, and living with or are at risk of diabetes and other lifestyle-related chronic conditions.
The course is a two part education program suitable for: Accredited Exercise Physiologists, Exercise Scientists, Certificate IV Personal Trainers, Physiotherapists
Beat It Trainer has been accredited for 19 total CPD points by ESSA and Fitness Australia CEC’s part 1 =10 and part 2 = 8
The Diabetes and Exercise learning program provides exercise professionals with extensive knowledge of how to ensure exercise prescription is safe and effective for people living with diabetes and other lifestyle-related chronic conditions.The course has 13 modules, with 4 assessments. You will be enrolled online and can complete it at your own pace.
This online course is accredited for 11 CPD points from ESSA and 10 Fitness Australia CEC’s.

Beat It Trainer is a face to face interactive training day that provides you with all the materials, content and support to initiate and run Beat It group physical activity programs. The training will cover:
On successful completion, you will be a registered Beat It Trainer and have access to prospective clients, ongoing support and resources from Diabetes Qualified.
This practical course is accredited for 8 CPD points from ESSA and 8 Fitness Australia CEC’s.

Tony Burgos, Personal TrainerPart 1: Diabetes and Exercise Online Course has 13 modules, with 4 assessments. It takes 12 hours in total to complete online, and you can do it at your own pace.
Part 2: 1 Day Face to Face Training needs to be completed after you have passed the online course. This additional 1 day face to face training will enable you to become a registered facilitator of the Beat It Physical Activity and Lifestyle Program.

Physical activity recommendations relating to aerobic activity, resistance training and weight loss.
Risk factors for developing type 2 diabetes and action to take to delay the onset.
Prevalence, cause, prevention, presentation and management of type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes.
Diabetes management, Monitoring, Healthy eating, Medications, Mental Health, Screening for complications.
Blood glucose levels & different types of physical activity, exercise-related safety precautions.
Hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia, strategies and action plans, emergency plans.
Hypertension and exercise, Dyslipidaemia and exercise.
Chronic microvascular complications for diabetes, Retinopathy, Nephropathy, Peripheral neuropathy, Autonomic neuropathy.
Cardiovascular disease, Coronary artery disease, Stroke, Peripheral vascular disease.
Arthritis, Hand, Feet, Shoulder, Spine.
Language used to engage and support people living with diabetes.
Have a supportive conversation with a person living with or at risk of diabetes (and other complications) and create a safe and effective Exercise Plan with that person.
Beat It face-to-face training days will now be going ahead as online sessions via Zoom.

You must have successfully completed the online training (Diabetes and Exercise Online) before you can attend the face to face training day.
Once both courses are successfully completed, you will be accredited for 2 years as a Beat It Trainer, and we will provide you with 24 months of support including:
- Assistance in establishing initial client base via electronic mail-out to up to 700 potential clients from the NSW & ACT database
- Website listing for any Beat It programs you are currently running
- Access to Beat It templates and support materials
- Promote your Beat It programs at our local community events
- Online community of fellow Beat It trainers
- Quarterly enewsletter
- Opportunity to utilize Beat It program branding within your facility
- Access to additional professional development opportunities

On completion of the online course by passing the assessments and successfully passing the 1 day training course. You will receive a certificate in the learning management system. This will provide you with accreditation for 24 months as a Beat It Trainer. On expiry you will need to complete the Beat It Refresher Course to be able to continue to deliver the program.

Beat It: Physical Activity and Lifestyle Program is an evidence-based exercise program for people with, and at risk of, diabetes. Diabetes NSW & ACT developed this program to support people living with diabetes in becoming more active in their lifestyles, and to get greater control over their condition.
Diabetes NSW & ACT will be funding a limited number of Beat It programs in various locations around NSW and ACT. This funding is intended to increase access to the Beat It program within the broader community, with a particular focus on areas with a high service need or low access to diabetes specific support services.
